This year, we expanded our reach and deepened our impact through the Building Bridges for Peace study project in Riyom, gaining critical insights into the drivers of violence and co-creating community-led pathways to peace. Our initiatives—such as joint farming conflict groups, intergenerational dialogue through storytelling sessions, citizens security meetings, and intercommunity exchange visits fostered collaboration and social cohesion. These efforts challenged dangerous stereotypes and mitigated vulnerabilities to conflict escalation. Additionally, our advocacy for human rights and inclusive governance, including pro bono support for survivors of violations and marginalized individuals, amplified voices often unheard, fostering opportunities for genuine government engagement
In 2024, YIAVHA also deployed observers for the rerun and local government elections, contributing to credible electoral processes.

We engaged in international dialogues, notably at the Knowledge Platform Annual Conference in Dakar, Senegal, enriching our work through cross-border collaboration. Locally, we strengthened partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, and community leaders, ensuring our collective efforts resonate beyond immediate beneficiaries.

In collaboration with others, YIAVHA contributed to ensuring that the 2024 End Bad Governance in Plateau state avoided the unrest seen in other locations.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are inspired to build on this momentum. Plans to revitalise a heritage site being significant to promoting social cohesion, deepen community engagements, and foster reflection and growth among young people and our team will remain central. We are also resolute in advancing justice, exemplified by our commitment to ensuring the enforcement of the rights of a social media activist, Samuel Bature is protected. Mr Samuel was detained in Plateau state for 14 days over a social media post he made about the state of government spending, weak care for the internally displaced. We are immensely grateful to our partners, donors, and the young changemakers in YIAVHA and the community who inspire us daily.
Together, we are shaping a more peaceful, inclusive, and just society. Here’s to a new year of hope, action, and progress.
